What is Thinglink? It is a web-based tool that enables the user to share images from the web or computer to empower participants to collaborate in conversation and discussion. Once image and link is shared participants may add their own content, links or images by inserting dots, also known as tags. Thinglink is a great cooperative engagement tool. Additionally, it is easy to sign up and to begin creating your own images. Check out my examples!
What do you think? How would you use this in a professional learning? How would you encourage others to use this tool within their classroom?
I hope you are Wildly impressed with Thinglink! Matt
Attendance concerns among school leaders has become increasingly more important than ever before. In many States, attendance is tied to school funding and more recently to accreditation. Because of this, it has become clear that schools must educate all students and make efforts to provide interventions for students who may have chronic absences.
As a school counselor, the monitoring of attendance has become an expected role in response to student attendance concerns. However, I do believe there are better ways to approach this issue. A proactive systemic school-wide approach and planned set of interventions is best suited to encouraging the expected behavior of attending school. Take some time to look at the resources gathered here and for more information on how to build an effective Attendance Intervention go to Attendance Works. I am Wild about meeting the needs of all students but in a proactive and effective way that lead's to better outcomes. Matt
Students are able to work through the units which include text and video's and answer a short quiz at the end. The site tracks student's progress as they earn and learn their way to a Digital Driver's License. Here is an example of a video below in the DDL unit on Digital Etiquette. I hope you took time to investigate Digital Driver's License to see why I am Wild about teaching Digital Citizenship!
Matt Today I shared a new tool with my teammates that I found can be very useful in many ways. ReciteThis.com is a free web-based tool where you can type in quotes or tips and overlay them with a variety of graphics provided on the site. This site is very easy to use and can be a great source for creating posters in little as 15-seconds. So simple:
How could you use Recite This in your program?
Check out what I created! Professional learning DescriptionThe content of this half-day session will address how school leaders can integrate Digital Citizenship within the framework of their existing School-wide PBIS plans. Using the PBIS framework, school teams will develop teaching expectations related to the nine elements of Digital Citizenship that can then be added to their school-wide PBIS matrix. Additional content focused around access to resources. WHEN: Monday, January 26 8:15-11:30 am WHERE: 11969 Westline Industrial Dr. St Louis, MO FREE! Register Here! Create a user name and password. Here is one I had seen before but watched this morning and just have to share with others. One of the best characteristics of school counselors is that they are usually the one educator in a students life that never gives up on them. What is even more powerful is teaching others to never give up on themselves. Here is a great video to share with your students about this powerful message. Also, a message we all can learn. Be Wild about what you love! Matthew Berry Well, it's official I start in my new position at Special School District on August 5th as a PBIS Facilitator. I am going to miss being a school counselor and at being at Hazelwood West Middle. It has been my life for the past 10 years. I created One Wild Counselor as a way for the students and parents I worked with to stay more connected with me. I wanted to provide easy access to resources and information about upcoming events at school. Over the next weeks this site will be going through a transformation, much like I am, cataloging the many things "I am Wild about...". I hope others will find my thoughts and experiences helpful. Because I will be doing the work of facilitating and coaching Districts and schools with the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports, an area will be dedicated to resources, pictures and ideas related to PBIS. Additionally, I will always be a Professional School Counselor. So you can look for many ideas in school counseling. I am a strong advocate for the work we do and am here to advocate and consult with anyone within this rewarding field. I must say "thank you" to those who have guided me professionally and personally these past ten years. Without the great students, parents and teachers I have worked with I would not be where I am today. This support has helped me to move on... I hope you all join me! Be Wild about what you love!
